Open City magazine submission guidelines (click here for guidelines for a literary award)
Please send short stories (one at a time, under 5,000 words) or poetry (up to 5 at a time) accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

Please note the following:
* We do not accept submissions via email.
* We do pay writers, an amount to be discussed upon acceptance, for first serial rights.
* If you are outside of the U.S., either send International Reply Coupons for our response or provide an email address.
* We do not accept submissions via Fedex, UPS, or any other method that requires a signature.
* We do not accept art submissions.
* Please allow us up to six months to respond. Await a response before sending a new submission.
* Simultaneous submissions are okay; please notify us in writing (email or mail) if your story/poetry is accepted elsewhere, and let us know the date of your submission; this makes withdrawing the manuscript much easier.
* We do not accept unsolicited book-length submissions for Open City Books. If you have a novel or short story collection you'd like us to consider, please send a self-contained excerpt or story as a submission to the magazine, and we'll contact you if we're interested in reading the whole book.
* We do not accept submissions from June1–August 31. All manuscripts received during this time will be returned unread. However, please see guideline for a short story contest with an October15 deadline. Click here for details.
